We said goodbye to a truly wonderful girl, Shadow. To call Shadow just a dog would be to miss the point entirely; she was a devoted family member, a constant source of joy, and a deeply loved companion, especially to Tato and Granny.
Shadow was the undisputed head of the home’s welcoming committee, she would always come say hi. Even if she just wanted a hug, Everyone who visited knew the pure excitement she brought to the front door. But her absolute favorite arrivals were always Granny and Tato. The moment she knew they were home, her tail would wag and wiggle with happiness. She had an endless capacity for love, and she made sure everyone who walked through the door felt like the most important person in the world.
She also cherished the quiet, everyday routines. To most people, checking the mail is just a mundane chore. But for Shadow and Tato, it was a daily adventure. Walking out to the mailbox together was their special time, a small but perfect ritual that showed just how devoted she was to being right by his side.
While our hearts are heavy today, we can find comfort in knowing exactly where Shadow is now. She is up in heaven, greeted by the loving family who went before her. We know she was eagerly met by Kodiak, Toby, and all our other furry family with their tails wagging, ready to run and show her around.
Most beautiful and comforting of all is the image of Shadow reunited with Serenity. If we close our eyes, we can almost hear the laughter and the splashing as they play together in the kiddie pool under the warm sun. Shadow is happy, she is at peace, and she is surrounded by family.
We will miss you, Shadow. Thank you for every enthusiastic greeting, every walk to the mailbox, and all the unconditional love you gave. You were so, so loved, and you will never be forgotten.
